Ika Matyjaszkiewicz

Artist, art historian and doctoral student at the Institute of Art History, University of Warsaw. In 2003 she received her MFA in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. In 2011 she received her master’s degree in history of art from the Faculty of History of the University of Warsaw. Her thesis, titled Human Body – God’s Body. Viewer towards the Image of Theotokos in the Church of Hagia Sophia in Constantinople, was awarded the prize for the best MA thesis by the Institute of Art History. She collaborates with the Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences and Humanities on the project entitled Sensuality in Polish Culture. She was awarded a scholarship from the Lanckoroński Foundation and subsequently held a fellowship in Rome in February 2014. Her interests extend from the theory of images to the relationships between image and the beholder in the Middle Ages and in the contemporary art.
